Science Olympiad
Science Olympiad is a team-based competition where middle/high school students test their knowledge on a wide range of STEM topics. I first started competing in Science Olympiad in the seventh grade (this is 2017 wow I feel so old…), and had an amazing opportunity to compete at regional, state, and national levels over the course of middle and high school. A lot of the studying I did in this competition (like learning oceanography, meteorology, astronomy, herpetology, ornithology, and many more) set the foundation for my current career in earth science research.
When I went to UNC for undergrad, I joined Carolina Science Olympiad, which is a Science Olympiad alumni organization at UNC that organizes invitational tournaments so current high schools can prepare for upcoming regional/state/national tournaments. As president (2024-2025) of Carolina Science Olympiad, I organized our third-annual in-person tournament at UNC where over 500 students participated across 30 teams around North Carolina. As president, I also organized volunteering opportunities for local tournaments, and provided coaching/mentorship to local middle schools in the Research Triangle Park region.
Now at Georgia Tech, I am working with their alumni organization as part of the Urban Schools Initiative to support local Title I schools as they prepare for their respective Science Olympiad seasons.

Epsilon Eta
I joined the Alpha chapter of Epsilon Eta Environmental Honors Fraternity during my second year at UNC. As a member of Epsilon Eta, I participated in professional/academic development and community service work. Part of this included volunteering at UNC Edible Campus and tabeling for the UNC Cleantech Summit. For my senior year, I was the Academic Chair, and organized study hours for members and planned a LinkedIn workshop so members could curate their profiles and learn how to connect with others on LinkedIn.
